What a missed opportunity! The Romanian tennis player Nicholas David Ionel, ranked 192 in the ATP, missed the qualification in the eights of the Concord Iași Open, an ATP Challenger 100 tournament with total prizes of 118,000 euros.

Ionel, 20, was defeated in the first round by Kalin Ivanovski (North Macedonia), 19, world number 370, coming from the qualifiers, score 6-4, 6-7 (4), 2-6, at the end a marathon match that lasted over three hours.

In the second set, Ionel had two match points at the score of 5-4.

David Ionel, a player trained by Andrei Pavel, the director of the tournament from Iași, thus missed the chance of a Romanian duel in the round of 16 with his clubmate Filip Jianu and implicitly ensuring a place in the quarters for Romania.
