Victor Cornea and Alexandru Jecan eliminated in the second round at "Concord Iași Open" 2020. Schedule for Friday, September 18
Victor Vlad Cornea and Alexandru Jecan, the last Romanians left in competition at the biggest tennis tournament in Romania, "Concord Iași Open" 2020, Challenger 100 tournament in the ATP Circuit, were eliminated in the second round of the doubles event.
Our compatriots led 5-3, in the first set, at 5-4 they had four set balls, but they missed the hits, and the score became 5-5 and quickly reached the tie-break. Their opponents in this match, the American R. Galloway and the Mexican H. Hach Verdugo were more careful and won the first set with 7-6 (5). Cornea and Jecan lost the serve in the first game of the second set and could not recover until the end.
With 6-4 in the second set, Galloway and Hach won, and the tournament in Iași remains without Romanians in the main draw.
Also today, in the other matches, both on the singles and doubles, we had two surprises. Although Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, no. 3, led 5-1 in the decisive set, he failed to victoriously finish the game with the Spaniard Adrian Menendez Maceira. At the end of a match that lasted more than three hours and 20 minutes, the Iberian would prevail with 6-2, 6-7 (9), 7-6 (6).
Another match ended with a surprise, the main favorites of the doubles event, the British Luke Bambridge and the Japanese Ben McLachlan, being eliminated by the American pair Alex Lawson / Hunter Reese, in only two sets, 7-6 (7), 6-2.
